How Long ‘Til Black Future Month? By N.K. Jemisin

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Summary

How Long ‘Til Black Future Month? is a series of unrelated short stories. Each one connects to themes of what it means to be human, rewriting history, and taking risks for survival, curiosity, love, and revenge.

Review

Jemisin’s stories varied so much that I found myself gushing over one while confused by another. The entire book holds her thoughtful writing style but, somehow, every character felt unique. The stories are in first person so I often felt as though I leapt into a new life at the beginning of every tale. It’s amazing that Jemisin was able to fit such full stories in less than 20 pages (sometimes just four)!

Verdict

I definitely recommend this book! When I first started it, I wasn’t sure about it because I’m not a huge Sci-Fi/Fantasy fan usually. This book made me question that. I love Jemisin’s imagination and I think you will, too.
